Women’s Basketball Falls to Drury

Drury opened the second half with a burst as Maryville dropped a 62-46 decision to the visiting Panthers. The loss snapped the Saints’ two-game winning streak.

With the score tied 7-7, the Abby Duethman scored six straight points to push the Saints ahead. She drained a 3-pointer from near the top of the circle, and scored off a feed from Kate Childs and hit the subsequent free throw for a 13-7 lead at the 13:35 mark. The Lady Panthers chipped away at the deficit and closed to 14-12. Alissa Oney and Breann Baker hit back-to-back jumpers for an 18-12 advantage. JoAnn Thompson had a steal and took it coast-to-coast for a 22-16 lead. The Maryville margin stood at 23-18 with just over six minutes left in the half but Drury scored 12 of the next 14 points and eventually settled for a 32-26 lead at halftime.

Drury started the second half with a burst and held the Saints scoreless and edged out to a 42-26 lead. Trailing 45-30, the Saints used a 7-2 burst to close to 47-37. Shelby Miller sank five straight free throws, and an Oney layup drew MU to just 10. However, the Saints were unable to cut the deficit to single digits as the Lady Panthers remain tied for the GLVC West Division lead at 16-6 overall, 11-3 in the conference.

Abby Duethman and Shelby Miller tied for the team lead with 10 points apiece. The Saints slide to 12-10 overall, 8-6 in the GLVC. Maryville hosts Missouri S&T Saturday in a 1 p.m. game.
