The Maryville softball team played Lewis in a non-conference doubleheader, and the Flyers edged out a pair of wins on an extremely windy afternoon in St. Louis. Lewis took game one 2-0 and triumphed in game two 6-2.

In the first contest, the Flyers put two runners in scoring position. Maryville pitcher Julie Jouglard picked up a ball put in play by Alyssa Moseley and threw out a Lewis runner at the plate to preserve the scoreless game. However, Jessica Rourke followed with a single to right to plate the eventual game winner. Lewis tacked on another run in the second for a 2-0 margin.

Maryville had its best scoring chance in the bottom of the third when it worked two walks and a single to load the bases. However, the Saints were unable to push across a run. In the sixth Meredith Brown singled to lead off and took second on a sac bunt, but she was stranded there. The Saints got another runner aboard in the seventh on a Karlie Twisselman bunt single but was unable to move her into scoring position.

In the second game, Lewis jumped on top with the first three runs of the game before the Saints scored a run in the bottom of the fourth. Sarah Graham doubled, her second hit of the game, to deep left field, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a Lewis error. Lewis rebuilt its lead with two runs in the top of the fifth.

The Saints pushed across another run in the bottom of the inning to draw to 5-2. Kelsey Barbeau walked and moved to second on a Lewis miscue. Shelby Steinkamp, who had two hits in the game, singled to left field and the ball bounced away, allowing Barbeau to dash home. However, the Saints were unable to get any closer and the Flyers tacked on an insurance run.

The Saints slide to 1-9 on the season, while the Flyers improve to 5-10.
