In game one of a doubleheader at Missouri S&T, Maryville starter Julie Jouglard surrendered just one hit. However, the Miners pushed across three unearned runs to snare a 3-1 win. In the second tilt, the Saints saw an early 3-0 lead slip away in a 12-5 defeat.
In the bottom of the third, the Miners took advantage of two errors and manufactured three runs without a hit for a 3-0 lead. The Saints drew one score back in the top of the third when Sarah Graham smacked a solo home run to left field to get Maryville on the scoreboard. Jouglard dominated from the circle and did not allow the Miners their lone hit until one out in the fifth when Shelby Michaelis notched a double. The Saints got the tying run to the plate in the seventh when pinch hitter Lacy Emrick worked a walk but was unable to bring her home.
The offenses got untracked early in game two. Karlie Twisselman singled, Shelby Steinkamp walked and Graham tripled them both home for a quick 2-0 Saints lead. Kelsey Kapitzke followed with an RBI double as Maryville’s first four batters all reached. The Miners answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but the Saints rebuilt their three-run lead with a solo tally in the second. Twisselman singled, took second on a groundout and later scored on a Missouri S&T miscue.
The Miners tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the third and charged ahead with six scores in the fourth inning. The Saints cut into the lead when Meredith Brown walked and scored on Danni Wydra double. That would prove to be as close as the Saints would get as they fell to 9-31 overall, 4-22 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Miners up their record to 14-27, 11-15.
The Saints return home and host Central Missouri for a twinbill Wednesday, April 11, starting at 3 p.m.
