The Maryville women's soccer team looks to continue its strong play with two Great Lakes Valley Conference road games in the state of Missouri. The Saints trek to Springfield, Mo., to take on Drury Friday, Sept. 28. The Saints close their road swing in Rolla, Mo., to take on Missouri S&T Sunday, Sept. 30.
MORE ON MARYVILLE:
The Saints are 2-5-2, 1-3-2 in the GLVC. With her header against William Jewell, Sam Poteet tops the team with three goals. Hana McGinis has a team-high three assists. Jena Casagrande is unbeaten (2-0-2) in the nets and has a 0.67 GAA, while Mandy Browning has amassed 25 saves in 366 minutes of play.
ABOUT DRURY:
The Panthers sport a 5-3 record and are 3-3 in the GLVC. Shelby Hatz is the top goal scorer in the league and has eight goals and two assists for 18 points. Kelly Gallagher tops the team with four assists. Kelsey Vaught has played the majority of time in goal and has a 1.16 GAA.
ABOUT MISSOURI S&T:
The Miners have dropped three straight and are 4-4 overall, 2-4 in the conference. Kimberly Ekholm leads the team with two goals and two assists for six points. Kelsey Salzman tops the team with three assists. Madison Gibler has played 467 out of 737 minutes at goalie and has a 1.93 GAA with 29 saves.
RECAPPING LAST WEEK:
The Saints started their week with a scoreless draw against McKendree. Jena Casagrande and the defense came up with five saves to blank the Bearcats Wednesday. William Jewell scored in the first overtime session to hand the Saints a difficult 1-0 setback Friday afternoon. Casagrande and the Saints worked a 0-0 draw with No. 19 Rockhurst, the first team the Hawks have not defeated all season. For her efforts, Casagrande became the first women's soccer player to garner GLVC Player of the Week honors.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Saints host their annual “Think Pink” game Friday, Oct. 5, when they host Wisconsin-Parkside for a 3:30 p.m. game. Maryville will be wearing their pink kits to bring awareness about breast cancer. Maryville ends the weekend with a Noon game Sunday, Oct. 7, as Lewis comes to St. Louis.
