Saints Travel to William Jewell and Rockhurst
THIS WEEK: The Maryville men’s basketball team is coming off its first win over a nationally-ranked team and takes a two-game winning streak on the road. The Saints, who are tied for the GLVC West Division lead, head to William Jewell Thursday, Jan. 17, and face Rockhurst Saturday, Jan. 19. In their last outing, the Saints recorded a 69-64 triumph over No. 4 Bellarmine.
ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL: The Cardinals are 6-6 overall, 2-2 in the league. Dillon Deck tops the team at 15.1 ppg and is third in the GLVC at 8.3 rpg. John Taylor adds 11.5 ppg, while Dwight Sistrunk chips in 10.9 ppg and is third in the conference in assists per game with 5.4.
ABOUT ROCKHURST: The Hawks are 1-10 overall, 0-4 in the GLVC. Brandon McCann leads the team with 12.5 ppg, and James Robinson averages 10.0 ppg. Cooper Beckett is the squad’s top rebounder at 4.6 per game. The Hawks rank second in the league in blocked shots at 4.09 per game.
MORE ON MARYVILLE: The Saints are 13-4, 3-2 in the GLVC and have already matched last season’s victory total. Asa Toney leads the team with 15.6 ppg, 71 assists and 27 steals. Armon Provo is second on the squad with a 13.7 scoring average and is second on the team with 50 assists and 25 steals. Lone senior Gerald Shaw adds 11.3 ppg. Trae Pemberton ranks second in the GLVC in 3-point field goal percentage at .490. Head coach Kevin Carroll is in his third year at Maryville and has compiled a 33-37 overall record.
LAST WEEK: The Saints registered two thrilling victories last week behind two late 3-pointers by Armon Provo. Up one with 12 seconds remaining, he drained a 3-pointer to key a 72-69 win over McKendree. Two days later against No. 4 Bellarmine, Provo sank a 3-pointer from nearly the same spot in a 69-64 win.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Saints return home Thursday, Jan. 24, when they host Drury for the annual “Mania Night” celebration. This year’s theme is “Rock of Ages”, and all fans are encouraged to come to the games dressed as their favorite rock star or rock band.
