Women's Basketball Voyages to William Jewell and Rockhurst

THIS WEEK
Maryville (7-6, 3-2) packs a two-game winning streak as it heads out on the road for Great Lakes Valley Conference games on the western side of the state. The Saints play at William Jewel Thursday, Jan. 17, and at Rockhurst Saturday, Jan. 19

ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL
The Cardinals are 8-4 overall, 2-2 in the GLVC. William Jewell leads the league in steals per game at 13.4 and turnover margin at +7.17. Katlyn Wood leads the team in scoring at 10.9 ppg, 6.2 rpg and is the top shot blocker in the league at 2.1 per game. Chelsea Meeks is fourth in assists per game at 4.6 in the GLVC, while Aerial Smith has the best assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.2-to-1.
 
ABOUT ROCKHURST
The Hawks start the week with a 3-8 overall slate, 1-3 in the league but have dropped their last three games. Allison Streich scores a team-high 9.9 ppg and is third in the league in offensive rebounds per game at 3.5. Kara McFarland adds 9.2 ppg and a team-high 6.8 boards per contest. The Hawks rank third in the conference in blocked shots at 4.4 per game.

THE NEW SCORING CHAMPION
With her final basket against Bellarmine Saturday, Jan. 12, senior forward Abby Duethman scored the 1,330th point in her career to become Maryville’s career scoring leader. She topped Heather Toma’s previous mark of 1,329 points which had stood since 1991.
 
LAST WEEK
Behind a double-double from Abby Duethman, the Saints downed McKendree 68-51 Thursday. Against Bellarmine, five Saints scored in double figures as Maryville psoted a 84-63 victory to run its home winning streak to five.

MORE ON MARYVILLE
The Saints return their top 11 players from a squad that posted a 19-12 overall mark, 11-7 in the league last season and won the GLVC Tournament. Senior forward Abby Duethman is nearly averaging a double-double with 16.7 ppg and leads the GLVC with 9.6 rpg. Brittnye McSparron is second on the team with 12.3 ppg, and GLVC Freshman of the Year and GLVC Tournament MVP sophomore guard Shelby Miller has hit 22 3-pointers and is averaging 9.4 ppg The Saints are second in the league in scoring margin at +14.4 and in turnover margin at +6.3
 
CLEANING THE GLASS
Abby Duethman has moved into fourth place on the all-time rebounding list with 530. She became just the fourth Saint to score 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds in a career. The only other Saints to reach those milestones are Julie Kellogg, Kim Lesley and Carrie Snyder. Ahead of Duethman in third place is Katie Albur with 539 boards, and Kim Lesley holds down second place at 585 rebounds.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Saints return home Thursday, Jan. 24, when they host Drury for the annual “Mania Night” celebration. This year’s theme is “Rock of Ages”, and all fans are encouraged to come to the games dressed as their favorite rock star or rock band. After the doubleheader of games, a Mania Dance will be held in CSE at 9:30 p.m.
