Armon Provo tied his career high with 31 points to pace the Maryville men's basketball team to an 87-74 victory Tuesday night in St. Charles, Mo., at Lindenwood. Provo matched his previous best set at Missouri S&T Feb. 7, 2013.

The Saints held a 7-6 lead but scored seven straight to surge to a 14-6 advantage. Trae Pemberton hit a 3-pointer to start the run, and Provo and Jamel Johnson scored inside to give the Saints they would not surrender the rest of the way. Maryville kept its edge and led by as many as 11. Harrison DuPont hit one free throw for a 40-29 with five minutes to play in the first half. The Saints settled for a 45-35 lead at intermission. Maryville hit 17-of-28 shots (60.7 percent) in the first half.

The Saints kept up their advantage in the second half and built an 18-point lead at the 11:51 mark on a Provo layup. The Lions made a charge and cut the gap to 10, but Provo and Trae Pemberton nailed back-to-back 3-pointers for a 75-59 advantage. Lindenwood made one final run and got as close as 79-72 with just under three minutes to play. However, the Saints were up to the challenge as Johnson scored on a reverse layup, and Provo nailed his fifth 3-pointer at the shot clock buzzer for an 84-72 lead. After the Saints made a defensive stop, Provo sealed the win with two free throws.

Provo hit 10-of-14 shots, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, to tie his career best and also grabbed five rebounds. Toney added 21 points, while Pemberton finished with 12. The Saints shot 54.5 percent from the field 30-of-55 and committed just six turnovers. Darris Smith led Lindenwood (2-4) with 20 points.

The Saints stay unbeaten on the season at 3-0 and are next in action Saturday at home when they host Southwest Baptist for a 3 p.m. game.
