Box Score UMSL boxscore in PDF

The Maryville women's basketball team suffered a cold shooting performance as the Saints dropped their Great Lakes Valley Conference Opener at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday afternoon. The Saints fell 69-35 to the Tritons and are 4-4 overall, 0-1 in the conference.

The Saints were down seven before a bucket by Shelby Miller got Maryville on the scoreboard. Samantha Robison hit a 3-pointer to pull the Saints to 11-7 but the Tritons pushed their advantage to eight. Miller hit two 3-pointers and a driving layup trimmed the deficit to just one at 26-25. The teams traded baskets and a layup by Alex Hillyer made it 28-27. The Tritons scored the last four points of the half to take a 32-27 lead at intermission.

Early in the second half, Rita Flynn hit a basket in the lane to bring Maryville to 34-29 but the Tritons slowly pulled away. The Saints misfired from the field as UMSL strung together 16 straight points. Hayley Maystead's hoop halted the Tritons' run but the Saints were unable to mount a comeback.

Miller led the Saints with 12 points but was the only Maryville player in double figures. The Saints shot just 21.1 percent from the field. Alyssa Like had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead UMSL (5-1, 1-0 GLVC), while Devonna Smith finished with a game-high 16 points.

The Saints are not in action again until they make trip to Puerto Rico to play three games in four days starting December 18.
