Saints Host Rockhurst and William Jewell

THIS WEEK: The Maryville men’s basketball team (20-6, 9-4) faces Rockhurst Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m., and host William Jewell Saturday, Feb. 16, for a 3:15 p.m. game. The WJU game is Men’s Basketball Alumni Day. All those interested in participating in alumni events should contact head coach Kevin Carroll. The next Saints victory will be the 21st of the season, the most since the 1978-79 squad set the program record with 21 wins.
 
ABOUT ROCKHURST: The Hawks are 3-17 overall, 2-11 in the GLVC. Brandon McCann leads the team with 12.6 ppg, and James Robinson averages 9.9 ppg. Cooper Beckett is the squad’s top rebounder at 4.9 per game and is third in the GLVC with 1.45 blocks per game. The Hawks rank second in the league in blocked shots at 3.7 per game. Maryville won the first game in Kansas City 62-57.
 
ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL: The Cardinals begin the week 10-11 overall, 6-7 in the league. Dillon Deck tops the team at 14.0 ppg and is second in the GLVC at 7.9 rpg. John Taylor adds 11.2 ppg, while Dwight Sistrunk chips in 9.6 ppg and is second in the conference in assists per game with 5.37. The Saints rallied to win the first meeting 59-54 in Liberty, Mo.
 
MORE ON MARYVILLE: The Saints are 20-6, 9-4 in the GLVC. Asa Toney leads the team with 14.5 ppg and 46 steals and is second in the league with 108 assists. Armon Provo is second on the squad with a 12.6 scoring average and is second on the team with 76 assists and third in steals with 37. Lone senior Gerald Shaw adds 10.8 ppg. Trae Pemberton ranks fourth in the GLVC in 3-point field goal percentage at .466. The Saints are second in the GLVC and 30th in the nation in scoring defense at 62.4 points per game. Head coach Kevin Carroll is in his third year at Maryville and has compiled a 40-39 overall record.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Trae Pemberton recorded a career-high 23 points to guide the Saints past Brescia 55-47 in their final non-conference game of the season.

Junior guard Asa Toney has scored 992 points in his career and can become the 14th player in program history to reach that mark.

The Saints have already recorded their 20th win of the season, the second most in program history. The school record for wins in a season is 21 by the 1978-79 squad.
