Saints Welcome Rockhurst for “Think Pink”; William Jewell Visits Saturday

THIS WEEK
Coming off two thrilling last-second road victories, the Maryville women’s basketball squad (13-8, 9-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference) returns home Thursday, Feb. 14, and host Rockhurst at 5:15 p.m. The game is the Saints annual “Think Pink” night in which they will don pink jerseys in honor of breast cancer awareness. Maryville hosts William Jewell Saturday, Feb. 16, for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
 
ABOUT ROCKHURST
The Hawks enter the game 7-14 overall slate, 4-9 in the GLVC. Kara McFarland tops the team with 9.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Kendall Hart adds 8.9 ppg and 4.2 rpg. MaKayla Grahn has handed out 53 assists. Taylor Skala is second in the league with 2.9 steals per game. The Hawks rank second in the conference in blocked shots at 4.0 per game. Maryville won the first meeting 72-58 in Kansas City.

ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL
The Cardinals are 13-8 overall, 7-6 in the GLVC. Chelsea Meeks leads the team with 12.1 ppg, has 69 assists this season and leads the GLVC with 3.4 steals per game. Katlyn Wood adds 10.9 ppg and 5.8 rebounds per game. She is the top shot blocker in the league at 1.9 per game. Aerial Smith has the best assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.0-to-1. William Jewell leads the league in steals per game at 12.6 and turnover margin at +6.9. The Cardinals won the first game 72-64 at home.

LAST WEEK
With the score tied at Missouri S&T, Kate Childs came up with a steal and fed Shelby Miller for the game-winning layup at the buzzer as Maryville emerged with a 56-54 win Thursday. At Drury, Miller set a school record with 10 3-pointers, and Abby Duethman sank two free throws with three seconds left as the Saints rallied for a 54-53 win Saturday. Miller finished with 35 points, the third-highest single-game total in Maryville history.

MORE ON MARYVILLE
Senior forward Abby Duethman is averaging a double-double and is fourth in the league in scoring at 16.3 ppg and is the top rebounder at 10.2 rpg. Sophomore guard Shelby Miller has hit 46 3-pointers and is averaging 11.4 ppg, while Brittnye McSparron is third on the team with 11.1 ppg and has a team-high 49 assists. The Saints are second in the league in scoring defense at 57.2 ppg, steals at 10.6, turnover margin at +4.62.
 
DOUBLE-DIGIT TRIPLES
Shelby Miller’s 10 3-pointers against Drury are tied for the most in NCAA Division II this season. Kendal Baxter from Tusculum also hit 10 triples in a game Nov. 23, 2012 at Rollins.
 
CLEANING THE GLASS
At Drury Feb. 9, 2013, Abby Duethman broke the school record for career rebounding. The previous mark of 616 was held by Julie Kellogg and had stood since 1987. Duethman now has 629 career boards.
 
DOUBLE THE FUN
Abby Duethman ranks 24th in the country with nine double-doubles this season. She is 21st in the country in rebounding (10.2).
