The Maryville softball team finished the first day of action at the UAH Charger Chillout with a 3-1 victory over Tiffin. The Saints improved to 2-0 on the young season and play two more games Saturday in day two of action.

Shelby Steinkamp singled to begin the frame.
Celci Mueller put down a sac bunt to push Steinkamp to second base.
Kelsey Kapitzke walked to put two aboard for the Saints. For the second game in a row,
Jennifer Maynez recorded an RBI in the first inning as her singled plated Steinkamp.
Tiffin drew even in the top of the third. The Dragons used three hits and took advantage of a Saints fielding miscue to score an unearned run. The game stayed tied at 1-1 before Maryville broke through with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs,
Meredith Brown started the rally with a single, and Steinkamp worked a walk. Mueller drove in the eventual game-winning run with an RBI single to left field. Kapitzke chased home an insurance run with a single through the right side of the Tiffin infield for a 3-1 Saints lead.
Kapitzke did not allow an earned run and recorded the win for Maryville.
Julie Jouglard retired eight batters to notch the save. Six different Saints registered a hit in the game.
