The Maryville University softball squad finished play at the UAH Charger Chillout with two losses to Alabama-based teams. The Saints dropped a 12-0 decision to West Alabama and ended the tournament getting tripped up 7-4 by host team Alabama-Huntsville.

West Alabama scored all the runs in would need in the top of the first as the Tigers pushed across four runs to take the lead. The Saints offense was held in check as Kelsey Kapitzke singled and walked but was the only Maryville player to reach base.

Against UAH, Shelby Steinkamp tripled to start the game and came around to score on Kapitzke’s RBI single up the middle. The Chargers tied the game in their half of the first, but the Saints again took the lead. Celci Mueller singled and Kapitzke reached on a fielder’s choice. Jennifer Maynez put down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Karlie Twisselman singled both runs home for a 3-1 lead. UAH answered with two runs in the third and took a 5-3 lead after the bottom of the fourth. The Saints manufactured an unearned run to get the gap down to one, but the Chargers sealed the win with two more runs.

The Saints slid to 2-4 on the season, while the Chargers improve to 7-3.
