The Maryville softball team finished up play at the Saint Leo Challenge by splitting a pair of tilts Sunday in Florida. The Saints dropped a 13-3 decision to Barry and won via a forfeit against Saint Leo.

Tampa put up crooked numbers in the first two innings before the Saints scored in the fourth inning. Karlie Twisselman bunted her way aboard and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Kelsey Kapitzke earned a walk, Jennifer Maynez doubled down the left field line for Maryville’s first run of the game. In the fifth, Meredith Brown and Shelby Steinkamp drew walks and the pair moved up after a ground out. Kapitzke lashed a double to right field to drive in two more runs.

In the contest versus Saint Leo, the umpires declared a forfeit for the Saints after an on-field dispute. The Saints are now 3-7 on the season. Maryville is next in action for four games in Joplin, Mo., the first weekend of March.
