The Maryville men’s basketball team set a school record with 20 3-pointers in a game as the Saints flew past Missouri S&T 89-53. The previous record of 18 was set against Missouri-St. Louis Jan. 2, 2010. The Saints took control of the game when they hit 12 straight shots, including eight 3-pointers, over the last 9:48 of the first half as the Saints sprinted away from the Miners. Armon Provo was perfect on the night as he hit all 11 of his field goal attempts and all seven from 3-point range.

Derek Deters drained a triple from the top of the key to ignite the Saints run, and
Melvin Turner followed with another from behind the arc.
Armon Provo took over with three straight 3-pointers, a layup, and another trey as he personally scored 14 consecutive points for Maryville.
Gerald Shaw continued the barrage from deep with a 3-pointer, and after a
Myles Jerrett layup, Provo hit yet another 3-pointer. After a Shaw layup, Provo scored inside to hand the Saints a 45-25 lead at intermission. The Saints finished the half shooting 77.3 percent from the field (17-of-22), including a sparkling 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from 3-point range.
The Saints stretched the lead out in the second half as were up by as many as 37 points and cruised to their fourth straight win.
Provo was perfect on the night and did not miss a shot. He set a school record by going a perfect 11-of-11 from the field, and also set a record by going 7-for-7 from 3-point range, made both free throws and finished with a career-high 31. Toney and Deters both added 12 points. The Saints finished the game shooting 67.4 percent (31-of-46) from the field, and 66.7 percent (20-of-30) from 3-point range. Mudi Eruteya led the Miners with 14 points.
The Saints improve to 19-5 overall, 9-3 in the GLVC. The 19 wins are the second most in a season for Maryville, trailing only the 21 victories posted by the 1978-79 squad. The Miners drop to 6-13 overall, 2-10 in the GLVC. Maryville is back in action Saturday, Feb. 9, at Drury.
