Box Score 2 The Maryville baseball team took both ends of its Great Lakes Valley Conference and home opener over Wisconsin-Parkside. The Saints downed the Rangers 8-2 and 3-2 for their first wins of the season. The games were originally scheduled to be played in Kenosha, Wis., but were moved to St. Louis due to weather.
In the first game, the Saints pushed across two runs in the second on and RBI double by
Kyle Kinyon and
Kaleb Depew. The Rangers tied the game with runs in the second and third before the Maryville scored one run in the last six innings of the game to slowly pull away. In the fourth,
Eric Keling walked and
Jared Green doubled him home for the eventual game-winning run. The Saints kept up the attack and gradually built up their lead.
Patrick Jacobs worked six innings and gave up just three runs to notch the victory.
In game two, the two teams traded single tallies before the Saints drove in the winning tally in the sixth inning.
Corey Gall doubled and scored on
Mike Wilkinson’s RBI single. After UWP tied the game in the second, Maryville went ahead in the third by pushing across an unearned run. The Saints scored the eventual game winner in the fifth when
Nick Little tripled and touched home on
Colby White’s sac fly to center field. The Rangers cut the gap to 3-2 but
Brett Grempler saved the game in the seventh to preserve the win for starter
Matt Staback.
The teams are slated to play another doubleheader Sunday starting at Noon.
