Box Score The Maryville baseball team tallied two runs in the top of the eighth and posted its third straight victory with a 5-3 win at McKendree Wednesday afternoon in Lebanon, Ill.
Colby White delivered the game-winning hit for the Saints.
The Saints snared the early lead after
Corey Gall doubled to start the top of the third and took third on White’s bunt single. Gall came around to score on
Jared Green’s RBI grounder for a 1-0 Maryville lead. The pitching staffs took over and only allowed the one MU run over the first five innings. However, the Bearcats pushed across two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. The Saints answered with a two-spot in the top of the seventh.
Gall started the rally with a walk, and White pushed him into scoring position with a sac bunt.
Mike Wilkinson doubled Gall home with a double. With two outs, the Saints bounced a shot to short but the ball was misplayed, and Wilkinson scored a run to push Maryville back ahead 3-2. McKendree tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a solo tally to forge a 3-3 tie.
Kaleb Depew walked to start the top of the eighth, and
Daniel Barnett laid down a sac bunt. After DePew took third on a wild pitch, Gall was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners. White delivered in the clutch to score both runners with a long double, his third hit of the game, to rightfield and a 5-3 Saints lead.
Brett Grempler pitched the final five outs and recorded three strikeouts to preserve the win for
Brandon Sarkissian. The Saints improve to 3-7 overall, while the Bearcats slip to 7-5.
