Rockhurst Downs Saints Softball in a Pair of League Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rockhurst limited Maryville’s softball team to one run in each game as the host Hawks won both ends of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader Saturday. The Saints lost the contests by counts of 4-1 and 7-1.
 
The Saints took the lead in the fourth when Shelby Steinkamp and Kelsey Kapitzke recorded back-to-back singles. The duo moved up a base after a ground out. Jennifer Maynez drove Steinkamp in with a groundout deep to second base for a 1-0 Maryville lead. Rockhurst scored an unearned run in the home half of the fourth to tie the game. The Hawks added three more unearned runs to tally the eventual winning score.
 
The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before the Saints tied the game in the fourth on Alex Flasch’s solo home run. Rockhurst used consecutive doubles to bring home two runs and tacked on insurance runs to close out the second game.
 
The Saints slip to 5-13 overall, 2-6 in the GLVC. The Hawks are now 14-7 overall, 4-3 in the league. Maryville is back in action Tuesday when it voyages to the University of Missouri-St. Louis for a league doubleheader.
