UMSL Slides Past Saints in Softball Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Maryville softball squad made the short trip over to the University of Missouri-St. Louis but found the road a hostile place as the Tritons swept the Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.

In the first game, the Tritons scored three runs in the first for all the offense they would need. The Saints were unable to string hits off Hannah Perryman who currently leads Division II in strikeouts per game. Maryville had its best chance to push across a run in the top of the second when Alex Flasch and Danni Wydra recorded back-to-back hits. However, the Saints hit into an inning-ending double play. The Tritons scored in the next two innings and finished up a 10-0 win.

The Tritons took all the suspense out of game two as they jumped out of the gate and overwhelmed the Saints. Maryville scored its only run of the game in the top of the third. Jennifer Maynez doubled to left to start the sequence, and Shelby Steinkamp singled her home. The Saints defense committed four errors leading to nine unearned runs as UMSL closed out the 15-1 win in the finale.

The Saints fall to 5-15 overall, 2-8 in the GLVC. The Tritons improve to 20-8 overall, 11-1 to lead the GLVC West Division. Maryville travels to Illinois Springfield Thursday, April 4, to makeup a doubleheader that was postponed due to weather.
