Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
The Maryville softball team’s offense was held in check Sunday afternoon as Quincy took a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference games by scores of 6-1 and 4-2. The Saints managed to post eight hits in the doubleheader.

The Hawks scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the third. The Saints got one run back in the home half of the inning. Celci Mueller lashed a double to left center and took third after a ground out. Karlie Twisselman lifted a sac fly to right field as Maryville cut the lead in half. Quincy tacked on three more runs in the fourth to increase its edge. Alex Flasch singled in the fourth and moved into scoring position but was stranded on the base path. Shelby Steinkamp reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second in the fifth but again was unable to tally.

Game two saw the Hawks push across two runs in the top of the third and a single run in the fourth before the Saints answered. In the bottom of the fifth, Tara Macias and Steinkamp earned back-to-back walks, and Twisselman singled in Macias to pull the Saints to 3-1. In the sixth, Mueller reached and moved to third after consecutive wild pitches. Jennifer Maynez singled to left as Mueller came home to cut Maryville’s deficit to 3-2. The Hawks added an insurance run in the top of the seventh before the Saints made a late push in their final at bat. Steinkamp walked and was moved into scoring position after a sac bunt by Twisselman, who had two hits and drove in two runs on the day. Steinkamp dashed to third on a wild pitch but Quincy held on for the win.

The Saints fall to 12-22 overall, 9-15 in the GLVC. Quincy improves to 18-26 overall, 13-17 in the league. Maryville is next in action Wednesday when crosstown rival Missouri-St. Louis visits for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
