Box Score 2 The Maryville baseball team hosted Missouri S&T and the teams split a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference contests on a windy afternoon at Weber Field in St. Louis. The Saints scored two runs late en route to a 7-5 in game one, while the Miners received a four-hitter on the mound in a 4-1 decision in game two.
The Saints took the early lead when
Kaleb Depew scored on a wild pitch for the early lead, and
Mike Wilkinson singled in
Colby White for a 2-0 edge. White turned in an RBI single to center as
Nick Little scored. Later, White was caught up in a rundown but remained alive long enough to allow Depew to spring home for the fourth run of the game. Little started the bottom of the fourth with a triple, and Depew’s ground out build the Saints edge to 5-0. The Miners finally reached the scoreboard with a single tally in the fifth but tied the game at 5-5 on a home run by Matt Robaska in the sixth. The Saints answered in the bottom of the inning. Kyle Kinyon with the eventual game winner.
Bob Miller tacked on an insurance run when he scored on Kinyon’s RBI single.
Shane Herschelman finished the eighth inning for Maryville starter
Patrick Jacobs, who picked up his fourth win of the season. Jacobs gave up only six hits and three earned runs in 7-1/3 innings of work.
Brett Grempler kept the Miners at bay in the ninth to notch his fifth save of the season.
In the second game, Missouri S&T started kept the Saints bats in check as he allowed just four hits to earn the complete-game win. The Miners scored two runs in the third for all the offense John Auble would really need. The Saints pushed across a run in the fourth.
Eric Keling doubled and took third on a balk.
Tyler Omlid delivered the RBI single as the Saints cut the lead in half. However, the Miners tacked on a run in the fifth and iced the game with another run in the top of the seventh.
The Saints move to 10-12 overall, 9-5 in the GLVC. The Miners are 9-15 overall, 8-8 in the league. The teams will close out the four-game series with two games Sunday starting at Noon.
