Box Score Missouri S&T boxscore in PDF

Asa Toney scored all 22 of his points in the second half but was unable to rally the visiting Maryville men's basketball team as Missouri S&T posted a 78-67 victory over the Saints in Rolla, Mo. The game was a battle between Maryville's No. 2 ranked scoring defense and Missouri S&T's top ranked scoring offense. The Saints shot 56.1 percent in the game but were unable to overcome 20 turnovers.

Trailing 10-7 in the early portion of the first half, the Saints took their first lead with a 6-0 burst by Trae Pemberton. The junior guard had consecutive three-point plays to first tie the game and later to push the Saints on top 13-10. The Miners surged back ahead and led 21-16. Pemberton scored and fed Darrin Young Jr. for a layup to draw the Saints back to 21-20. Two free throws by Myles Jerrett tied the game at 24-24 but the Miners used an 8-0 and eventually settled for a 32-27 lead at halftime when Pemberton hit a trey late in the half.

The Miners built a 42-34 lead until Toney converted consecutive layups to pull the Saints to 42-38 five minutes into the second half. Later, a Toney bucket cut the deficit to just two at 45-43. The margin stood at 52-48 until Missouri S&T outscored the Saints 9-2 to build a 61-50 advantage with just under six minutes to play. Maryville made a mini run with five straight points on two Toney free throws and a 3-pointer by Armon Provo rally to within 61-55. However, that would be as close as the Saints would get as the Miners held on for the victory.

Toney hit eight of 12 shots from the field en route to his 22 points, and he led the Saints with six rebounds. Pemberton finished with a season-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Mudi Eruteya led the Miners with 21 points. Missouri S&T committed only eight turnovers in the contest.

The Saints slip to 9-6 overall, 3-4 in the GLVC, while the Miners win their third straight and improve to 8-8, 3-6 in the league. Maryville is back in action Saturday, Jan. 25, when they head to Springfield, Mo., to take on defending national champion Drury. The game starts at 11 a.m. and will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
