The Maryville men's basketball team handed No. 17 Lewis its first loss of the season in a thrilling 83-74 double overtime contest. The Saints scored the final 12 points in double OT to rally for the win, Maryville's second win over a nationally ranked team in program history. Last season, the Saints beat No. 4 Bellarmine.

In the second extra session, the Flyers hit two free throws to take the lead 71-69. Myles Jerrett answered for the Saints with two of his own charity tosses. Gabe Williams answered with a long 3-pointer to put Lewis ahead 74-71. However, that would prove to be the last points for the Flyers. Josh Montague drove the middle of the lane and put up a floater that cut the deficit to 74-73.

Asa Toney pushed the Saints ahead 75-74 when he banked in a shot in traffic with 1:48 left. The Flyers, who had only committed three turnovers through regulation and the first overtime session, committed the first of two straight miscues. Trae Pemberton drilled a 3-pointer for a 78-74 lead. After Lewis' second turnover, Toney knocked down two free throws for an 80-74 lead with 30 seconds to play. The Saints forced a missed shot by Lewis, and Armon Provo sealed the win by converting two more from the free-throw line. Darrin Young Jr.'s free throw provided the final margin.

In regulation, the Saints were down by one before Young made two free throws for a 57-56 lead with just under two minutes to play. Neither team scored again until Jamel Johnson hit one free throw with 30 ticks left for a 58-56 Maryville lead. The Flyers forced overtime when Julian Lewis sank two free throws with 4.6 seconds left.

In the first extra session, the Saints built up a 66-61 lead in the final minute on a Young layup. The Flyers tied the game on a tip before Provo hit one free throw for a 67-63 lead. Lewis received two free throws by Nick Vallla and tied the game on a layup by Ryan Jackson. Toney gave the Saints a 69-67 lead with 22 seconds left, but Gabe Williams scored a tough layup in the lane to force the second overtime.

Toney, who moved into 10th place on Maryville's all-time scoring list, finished with 23 points. The senior has scored 1,237 points in his career. Jerrett added 13 points, and Young finished with 12 points. Julian Lewis topped the Flyers with a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds.

The Saints improve to 8-3 overall, 2-1 in the GLVC. The Flyers fall to 10-1, 2-1 in the league. Maryville is back in action Saturday when it hosts Wisconsin-Parkside for a 3 p.m. tilt.
