Shelby Miller narrowly missed her second double-double of the season to help the Maryville women's basketball team down William Jewell 90-88 in overtime. The junior tallied 25 points and nine rebounds as the Saints won their second straight.

In the second half, the Saints were leading 49-45 after a
Breann Baker 3-pointer, but the Cardinals used a 13-2 run to jump ahead by seven points. Maryville still trailed 60-53 with 10 minutes to play before going on an 11-0 streak to surge back ahead. Miller started the run with a layup, and after one
Joann Thompson free throw,
Rita Flynn scored consecutive hoops to tie the game at 60-all. Miller took over the Saints scoring with six straight for a 66-60 lead with 4:37 to play.

William Jewell tied the game and the score was still deadlocked at 68-68. Miller scored four in a row for Maryville, but WJC stayed close. In the final minute of regulation,
Samantha Robison's free throw was good for a 73-70 lead with 48 seconds to play, but Chelsea Meeks hit two from the free-throw line to trim the deficit to 73-72. Flynn was fouled and made two free throws for a 75-72 edge with 17 seconds to play but Meeks drained a 3-pointer from the left wing with three ticks left to force overtime.

In the extra session, Robison scored and Miller added two free throws for a quick 79-75 Saints advantage. Maryville was still leading 81-77 before the Cardinals tallied six straight to take an 83-81 lead with two minutes to play. Thompson hit a basket in traffic, and later, she made two free throws to push the Saints back on top 85-84 with 41 seconds remaining. Maryville's defense forced a missed shot, and Miller drained two more free throws for an 87-84 lead with 17 seconds to play. Hayli Jo Smith answered with two for WJC with 11 ticks to go. The Cardinals fouled Miller who was up to the task as her free throws rebuilt an 89-86 lead with seven seconds remaining. The Saints fouled Meeks with three seconds to go and she hit two from the line to pull the Cardinals to 89-88. William Jewell fouled Thompson who hit the second attempt for a 90-88 margin. WJC attempted to throw the ball down the court but Thompson deflected the ball for a steal to end the game.

Miller made 12 free throws and now has 986 career points. She can become the eighth player in Maryville history to reach 1,000 career points. Flynn and Robison both had 14 points apiece, while Jordynn Martin tied her career high with 13 points, and Thompson finished with 11 points. Chelsea Meeks finished with 25 points and six assists to pace the William Jewell (8-11, 3-8 GLVC) attack.

The Saints improve to 12-8 overall, 5-5 in the conference. Maryville is next in action Thursday, Feb. 6, when it hosts Indianapolis for a 5:30 p.m. game.
