Evansville, Ind. - The Maryville women's basketball team broke open a back and forth affair late in the first half and never looked back as the Saints defeated Southern Indiana for the first time in four meetings 89-79 at the PAC in Evansville, Ind.

Junior guard Shelby Miller tied her career high with 35 points, which included nine bombs from beyond the arc, to pace Maryville, who improved to 14-9, 7-6 on the season. Miller, a guard from nearby Elizabeth, Ind, was 10-of-18 from the field and a blistering 9-of-13 from three-point range.  Samantha Robinson added fourteen points while Alex Hillyer continued to contribute off the bench with ten points.

In a first half that started out going back and forth, the Saints went on a 14-5 run over the last four minutes of the half to take a 44-32 lead. Miller drilled a pair of treys, including one from the right wing as time expired in the half to power the run.

The Screaming Eagles (14-8, 9-5) were able to cut the Maryville lead down to seven at 52-45 on a Stephanie Carpenter triple at the 14:59 mark in the second, but the Saints again used the hot hand of Miller to go on a 13-3 run over the next four minutes to extend the lead to 65-48 with just over ten minutes left. Miller nailed three triples in that four minute span.  Carpenter led the way for Southern Indiana with 25 points as she also put on a show from beyond the arc with seven three's.

Joann Thompson and Rita Flynn snagged eight rebounds apiece while Miller and Flynn dished out four assists on the night to aid in the road victory. The Saints held the GLVC's leading scorer Anna Hackert to just five points, more than 14 below her season average.

Maryville was 28-of-59 from the field and shot 50 percent (13-of-26) from beyond the arc to get its first victory over the Eagles in the young series. The Saints also won a key statistical battle by converting 24 Southern Indiana turnovers into 32 points.

Maryville continues their five-game road trip on Saturday as the Saints travel to Louisville, Ky., to take on Bellermine on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. (ET).
