Women's Basketball Takes on Drury in 2014 Deaconess GLVC Tournament Quarterfinals

THIS WEEK
The Saints (18-11) head to the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind., for the 2014 Deaconess Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Basketball Tournament. Maryville, the No. 8 seed in the tourney, takes on top-seeded Drury at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6. If the Saints win, they would play at Noon Friday, March 7, against the winner of the No. 4 Indianapolis-No. 5 Missouri-St. Louis. The championship game is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday, March 9.

LAST TIME OUT:
In the first round of the GLVC Tournament, the Saints downed Bellarmine 71-65. Shelby Miller tallied 23 points, Erica Lorton tied her career best with 19 points, while freshman Alex Wolf provided a spark off the bench with 12 rebounds.

ABOUT DRURY
The Lady Panthers, who are ranked seventh in the country, finished the regular season 24-2, and won the GLVC West Division with a 16-2 slate. Amber Dvorak leads the way with 16.6 ppg, while Bethanie Funderburk scores 13.7 ppg. Drury tops the league in scoring at 82.0 ppg and in rebounding margin at +8.4. DU won the first game 89-83 Jan. 25 in Springfield.

Shelby Miller leads the team in scoring at 15.8 ppg, ninth in the GLVC, and is third on the team in rebounding at 5.2 rpg. In addition, she tops the team in assists with 92 and steals with 57. Coming off the bench, Alex Hillyer adds 12.5 ppg and chips in 4.9 rpg. Samantha Robison contributes 9.8 ppg and has hit 37 3-pointers. Rita Flynn is sixth in the GLVC in field goal percentage at .547.

ALL-TIME IN THE GLVC TOURNAMENT
With their win over Bellarmine, the Saints have improved their all-time record in the GLVC Tournament to 7-1. In 2012, Maryville went 4-0 to win its first GLVC title. Last year, the Saints stormed to the title game before falling to top-seed Lewis.

GLVC HONORS
As announced earlier this week by the league office, Shelby Miller was a first-team All-Conference selection, while Joann Thompson earned All-Defensive Team recognition.
