Box Score 2 St. Louis - The University of Missouri-St. Louis proved it was worthy of its No. 6 national ranking as it defeated Maryville in both ends of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon in north St. Louis. The Tritons used the long ball to power its offense with five home runs in a 10-1 victory in game one, and the Saints challenged UMSL but was edged 2-0 in game two.
The host Tritons hit two three-run homers in the first inning for all the offense it would need. The Saints struck for their only run in the top of the second. With one out
Alex Flasch, ripped a double to left center for the Saints' first hit of the day. The next batter,
Ashley Marks, laced a single that landed just inside the right field line to score Flasch with Maryville's first run. Marks promptly swiped second base to put herself into scoring position. However, the Saints offense stalled out and UMSL pulled away late. Hannah Perryman held the Maryville offense to just one run, three hits and had nine strikeouts to pick up the victory.
In game two, UMSL pushed across the only run in would need in game two and added another tally in the fourth to seal the win. The Saints best scoring chance happened in the top of the third.
