Martin and Frala Ease Saints Past Missouri S&T 86-55

Jordynn Martin led four Maryville players in double figures with 15 points as the Saints eased past Missouri S&T 86-55Saturday afternoon in Moloney Arena. For the second straight contest, Carly Frala recorded a new career high as she finished with 13 points. The Saints set a record for margin of victory in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game with their 31-point margin topping the previous mark of 24 set at Rockhurst Feb. 2, 2012.
 
The Saints were up 19-15 before embarking on a 10-3 run. Rita Flynn scored on a layup, and Danie Shafer came off a screen and drilled a 3-pointer. The Miners tallied three points but Ali Ringering splashed in a 3-pointer, and Frala hit two free throws for a 29-18 margin. After Missouri S&T hit a jumper, the Saints scored 12 unanswered points to surge to a 41-20 advantage, capped by Frala's corner 3-pointer. Maryville took a 44-26 lead into the break.
 
The Saints maintained their lead and had built a 54-36 cushion on a Shelby Miller 3-pointer but the Miners slowly inched back into the game. Over the next six minutes, Missouri S&T cut the Saints margin to single digits at 59-51 with 9:40 to play. However, the Saints responded Martin hit a jumper, and Frala knocked down her third 3-pointer for a 64-51 lead. The Miners made one free throw but the Saints ripped off 17 unanswered points to take an 81-52 margin and cruise to the win.
 
In addition to Martin and Frala, Jade Rogers added 12 points and five rebounds, while Flynn finished with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. The Saints shot 51.8 percent in the game. Brittany Andersen led Missouri S&T (4-13, 0-9 Great Lakes Valley Conference) with 16 points and eight rebounds.
 
The Saints improve to 11-7 overall, 5-4 in the GLVC. Maryville starts a four-game road swing Thursday, Jan. 29, as they head to William Jewell.
