Alex Hillyer scored the first points for the Saints but the Salukis roared out to a 13-2 lead early in the first quarter. Hillyer added another bucket inside, and
Alex Wolf knocked down a 3-pointer as the Saints pulled to 13-7.
Ellen Foster made one free throw and a late layup by
Ali Ringering pulled the Saints to 15-12 at the end of the first quarter.

SIU again started quickly in the second and rebuilt a 24-14 lead. Back-to-back buckets by Hillyer and Wolf pulled the Saints to 24-16. The Salukis again stretched its lead to 31-19 with three minutes left before halftime. Hillyer sank four free throws, and a layup by Ringering pulled the Saints to 31-27. A late SIU trey was good for a 34-27 lead at the break.

Ringering opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer as the Saints used a 6-1 run to cut the deficit to just 35-33 on a
Stephanie Sherwood free throw. SIU pushed back out to a double-digit lead before two hoops by Foster at the end of the quarter drew the Saints back to 46-40.

SIU led 57-49 with four minutes to play before the Saints made one final rally. Hillyer had a three-point play, and a layup by Wolf trimmed the SIU edge to just 57-54 with 3:16 left in the game. The Salukis scored four straight points but Hillyer answered with a bucket to pull Maryville to 61-56 at the 1:22 mark. After SIU made one free throw, Foster scored on a layup to get the Saints to within 62-58 with 43 seconds to play. However, the Saluki scored a hoop, and after a Maryville miss, added one free throw. Foster scored one more time as the Saints rally finally came up short.

Hillyer had 22 points and added seven rebounds. Foster made 5-of-8 from the field en route to 11 points and eight boards, while Ringering added 10 points and three assists. Wolf missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Kylie Giebelhausen and Cartaesha Macklin both had double-doubles with 16 points and 13 rebounds, and 15 points and 10 boards, respectively.
