Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | St. Louis

Three-Game Win Streak Ends for Men's Soccer in 1-0 Loss to Drury

The Maryville men's soccer team had its three-game winning streak come to an end as Drury used a second-half goal to down the Saints 1-0. Maryville had won three straight for the first time since 2006.

Luke Gilsinger had an early chance in the ninth minute but DU keeper Nicholas Helin made the save.  Neither team generated many scoring chances in the first half as teams only combined to shoot three times. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie.

Drury started applying the pressure in the second half. The Panthers had one shot cleared off the line by the Maryville defense before breaking through for the game winner. Matt Clarkin had a shot in the Maryville box saved by Christian Kjaersgaard but the ball came right back to Clarkin who tapped in the rebound in the 65th minute for what would prove to be the game's only goal. A few minutes later, Ryan Schlick had a drive saved by Helin. In the final minute, the Saints had a shot from inside the penalty area blocked out which resulted in a corner. However, the Saints were unable to find the late equalizer as the Panthers (4-4-2 overall, 4-2-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference) escaped with a road win.

The Saints slip to 5-5-1 overall, 3-4-1 in the GLVC.
