The Maryville baseball team split another doubleheader against Hillsdale Sunday to close out the four-game series with a 2-2 split. The visiting Chargers took game one 11-7 in eight innings, and the Saints bounced back to win the finale 4-3.

The Saints tallied single runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead.
Mitch Carriger cranked a solo home run to open the scoring, and Maryville used one hit, two walks and an error to add a second score. Hillsdale got on the scoreboard with one run in the four before erupting for six runs in the sixth. The Chargers pieced four hits and a Saints error to jump to a 7-2 advantage. Maryville answered with the help of two Hillsdale errors and five walks to forge a 7-7 tie. The game moved to extra innings before the Chargers opened the top of the eighth with three singles and a walk and scored four runs to claim the win. The defeat spoiled a strong outing by Maryville starter
Robbie Gordon who retired the first 10 Hillsdale batters and did not give up a hit until the fourth inning.
Yoonjae Nam and Carriger both recorded two hits in the game.

In the second game. The Saints scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the third. Maryville starter
Steven Reynolds blanked the Chargers over the first five innings and did not surrender a hit. However, Hillsdale opened the sixth with back-to-back singles and a double helped the Chargers grab a 3-2 lead. The Saints answered in the bottom of the sixth. Pinch hitter
Dalton Schumer singled, and
Brad Ridings also reached on a hit.
Kaleb Depew brought home a run with a single, and Carriger plated the winning run with a single with two outs.
Brandon Downey preserved the win for Reynolds in the top of the sixth.

The Saints improve to 4-6 on the season, while the Chargers are 3-5. Maryville returns to the diamond Tuesday when it hosts Lincoln for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Weber Field.
