Reynolds Dominates with Four-Hit Shutout vs Rockhurst

Steven Reynolds spun a four-hit shutout in game two as the Maryville baseball team spilt both the doubleheader and the series against visiting Rockhurst. After the Hawks notched a 4-1 win in the opener, Reynolds shut down the visitors on four singles in game two for Maryville's first shutout of the season.

The Saints grabbed the early lead in the opener when Kaleb Depew singled and took second on Mike Wilkinson's base hit. Mitch Carriger delivered the RBI single for a 1-0 edge. However, that would be the last run of the game for the Saints. Rockhurst tied the game in the third and inched ahead with two runs in the fifth. The Hawks tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh. The Saints had chances to score in the fifth and sixth but stranded two runners in each inning.

In the second game, the Saints scored the only run they would need when Tyler Catlett's RBI groundout scored Carriger for a 1-0 lead. Brad Ridings laced an RBI single in the third, and the Saints tacked on two more runs in the fourth. After a solo run in the sixth, the Saints salted the game away with three runs in the seventh. Wilkinson and Carriger both had RBI singles in the frame, and Tyler Catlett drove home another with a fielder's choice. Reynolds dominated the Hawks and did not allow more than one base runner in any inning.  Only one runner even reached scoring position as Reynolds retired the final eight batters of the game to improve his mark to 3-3 on the season.

The Saints stand at 13-22 overall, 6-16 in the GLVC. The Hawks are 18-19 overall, 10-13 in the league.  Maryville is next in action Tuesday as they make the short trip to north St. Louis to take on the University of Missouri-St. Louis for a doubleheader starting at Noon.
