In the rain-delayed game that started at Noon Saturday, Quincy scored the first two runs of the game in the third. The Saints got a run back when
Dalton Schumer singled home
Brad Ridings. The Hawks tacked on three more runs in the fifth on three hits for a 5-1 advantage. The Saints got a run back when Schumer scored on
Mitch Carriger's single. Quincy appeared to put the game away with another three runs in the sixth for an 8-2 lead. However, the Saints stormed back with five runs in the sixth.
Zack Ruckman singled home
Sean Murphy, and Ridings plated
Garrett Taylor with another score.
Mike Wilkinson ripped a run scoring single to left, and Carriger doubled down the line in right to score two more as the Saints cut the deficit to just 8-7. However, the Hawks took control with three insurance runs in the seventh.
Â
In the regularly scheduled nine-inning game, Quincy starter Jake Peterson limited the Saints to just five hits to close out the sweep. The Saints had an early chance in the first when Ridings singled and took second on a QU error.
Kaleb Depew started the third inning with a double but was stranded there. The Hawks got the only run they would need on Justin Blechle's solo homer in the fourth. QU added another run in the frame and another in the seventh to close out the scoring. The Saints only had three base runners in the last three innings.
