In the immortal words of recently passed St. Louis-native Yogi Berra, it was déjà vu all over again as the Maryville men's soccer team won its second-straight road game 1-0 in overtime. Freshman
Landon Paul scored in the fourth minute of the extra session as the Saints beat Wisconsin-Parkside Sunday afternoon. In their last outing Friday, the Saints defeated Lewis by the same 1-0 score line in OT.
Â
In the overtime session, the Saints earned a corner kick but the ball was sent out of play by the Rangers.
Luke Gilsinger had the initial throw in, and
Karlo Jingura directed the ball towards the UWP net. Paul collected the pass and tallied his first collegiate goal to give the Saints the thrilling victory. Maryville goalie
Christian Kjaersgaard faced 12 shots and came up with three saves over the nearly 94 minutes to post his second consecutive clean sheet. The Saints had eight shots on goal while the defense limited the Rangers to three attempts on target. Maryville has played in four consecutive overtime games in conference play. The Saints win over Wisconsin-Parkside was the first in seven meetings.
Â
The win boosts the Saints to 4-4-1 overall, 2-3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Rangers dip to 3-5-1 overall, 3-2-1 in the conference. Maryville is next in action at home this Friday as Missouri S&T visits St. Louis.
