Box Score Wisconsin-Parkside boxscore in PDFDamyan Stoyanov led five Maryville players in double-figures with a career-high 18 points but Maryville's men's basketball team was unable to rally past Wisconsin-Parkside 90-81 in a high scoring affair Saturday afternoon in St. Louis. The Saints shot 69.0 percent in the second half but saw their late comeback fall short.

The Saints jumped out to the early lead to control the first half. Up 5-4, the Saints scored eight straight points.
Forrester Sims and Stoyanov hit consecutive buckets to start the run.
Marvin Grant-Clark scored on a layup, and
Saikou Jallow's jumper was good for a 13-4 lead four minutes into the contest. However, the Rangers scored the next 15 points to claim a 19-13 lead. The Saints later used a 6-2 run to inch closer. Jallow scored and
Max Mischkulnig added two free throws. Stoyanov converted a layup to pull the Saints to 21-19. However, the Rangers used a 7-0 run and took a 38-28 lead at halftime.

Wisconsin-Parkside took a 41-30 lead in the first minute of the second half but the Saints made a charge. Stoyanov drilled a layup and two straight 3-pointers as Maryville marched to within 41-38. The Rangers made one free throw before a Grant-Clark jumper drew the Saints to 42-40 at the 17:35 mark. Maryville stayed close, and consecutive layups by Sims and
Karson King brought the Saints to 54-52 with 12 minutes remaining. UWP went on a 14-0 burst before Stoyanov scored to stop the drought. The Saints cut their deficit to single digits in the waning moments but were unable to come all the way back.

Stoyanov hit 8-of-12 shots from the field and added four rebounds to pace the Saints. Grant-Clark had 16 points and six rebounds, while Sims added 14 points.
Jeff Leeson had 11 points, and Jallow recorded 10 points, six rebounds and four assists. Jake Verhagen led Wisconsin-Parkside (12-2, 5-1) with 19 points as the Rangers won their eighth straight game.

The Saints next play Thursday, Jan. 21, as they travel to Quincy.
