Quincy boxscore in PDFQuincy, Ill. – Maryville kept things tight on the road on Thursday night until Quincy put together a pivotal run at the end of the first half and then watched as the Hawks would cruise to a 98-79 victory at Pepsi Arena in Quincy, Ill.
Saikou Jallow started the night by scoring four of the Saints first six points while Joseph Tagarelli netted the Hawks first six markers as the teams headed to the first media break tied at 6-6. Tagarelli nailed another jumper in the lane to start a 7-0 run after the break to give Quincy a 13-6 advantage with 14:15 remaining in the half.
Derek Deters came off the bench to drain a triple from the left wing to help the Saints get right back into the game with their own 6-2 run to cut the Quincy lead to 15-13. The Hawks maintained the lead and extended it to as many as seven points over the next eight minutes.
Forrester Sims hit a pair of free throws at the four-minute mark to cut the Quincy lead to 36-33, that is when the Hawks mounted a 13-1 run as Evan McGaughey scored six of 13 points to give Quincy a 49-34 halftime advantage.
The Hawks continued their solid shooting at the beginning of the second half as they kept their lead in double digits until
Max MIschkulnig hit a fade away jumper to cut the Quincy lead to 59-51 with 14:09 left in the contest. The Hawks answered with a 10-0 run as four different players scored to give Quincy a 69-51 advantage with just over ten minutes left in the game and they would never look back.
Maryville (7-11, 1-7 GLVC) got another nice performance from Sims, who finished the night with 23 points, which included a stellar 9-of-10 outing from the charity stripe.
Marvin Grant-Clark added 15 markers while
Karson King knocked down a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. The Hawks (12-5, 6-2 GLVC) were paced by Tagarelli and McGaughey with 25 points apiece with Jordan Wilson chipping in with 17 markers in the victory.
Maryville returns to action on Saturday afternoon as the Saints travel to Kirksville, Mo., to take on Truman State in a 3 p.m. start.
