Ali Ringering and
Stephanie Sherwood both notched 18 points apiece to pace the Maryville women's basketball team to a 61-53 win over the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Friday afternoon. The duo combined to hit 10 of 19 shots from the field.

The Saints were down 3-2 before scoring eight straight points to take the lead. Sherwood drilled a 3-pointer, and
Alex Wolf had a layup.
Amanda Ponce sank a triple for a 10-3 lead. UPRM stayed close and eventually tied the game at 16-16. Ringering drilled a 3-pointer, and two free throws by
Carly Frala handed the Saints a 21-16 edge after the first quarter. The Saints were still up 23-18 before a 7-0 burst built their biggest lead of the day. Sherwood scored on a drive, and Wolf grabbed an offensive board for a put back.
Brooklyn Chaffin knocked down a shot from beyond the arc for a 30-18 advantage. The Saints eventually took a 34-25 lead into halftime.

The Bulldogs scored on their first possession of the third quarter, and would not let the Saints rebuild a double-digit lead. Maryville still held a 46-39 edge going into the final 10 minutes. The Saints were holding on to a 46-44 margin with 8:35 to go before tallying six straight points. Sherwood knocked down a triple, and later added a free throw. Ringering scored in traffic to build a 52-44 lead at the 6:19 mark. Later, Sherwood drilled her fifth 3-pointer of the game, and a steal and fastbreak bucket by Ellen Foster sealed the win.

Sherwood hit 5-of-8 from beyond the arc and added five rebounds. Ringering sank all eight free throw attempts en route to her 18 points and chipped in three boards and three assists. Wolf grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. The Saints hit half their shots from the field (17-of-34) and shot .588 (10-of-17) from 3-point range. UPR-Mayaguez slips to 0-3 on the year.

Maryville (3-2) is next in action as it opens Great Lakes Valley Conference play Thursday, Dec. 1, at Missouri S&T.
