Rolla, Mo. - In the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener Thursday night in Rolla, Mo.,
Anthony Johnson recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds but the Maryville men's basketball team was felled by a barrage of 3-pointers by Missouri S&T as the Saints dropped an 82-69 decision.

Karson King scored on a drive to open the game before the Miners used an 8-0 run to grab the lead.
Grant Sims and
Marvin Grant-Clark both sank two free throws as the Saints closed the gap to 8-6. Missouri S&T used a 7-0 burst and eventually took a 20-8 lead. Maryville answered with a 7-2 span and edged back to 22-15. The Miners extended the lead to 26-17 before the Saints answered.
Evan Booker made one free throw and added a layup on the next trip. King scored on a fastbreak as the Saints got the gap down to 26-22. Maryville would not let the Miners escape and closed to 33-31 with 27 seconds left before halftime. However, the Miners hit a late triple for a 36-31 lead at the break.

Missouri S&T slowly pushed its advantage back up to 48-40.
Forrester Sims scored five straight points as the Saints closed to 48-45 at the 13:32 mark. The home team converted but Forrester Sims again had the answer to keep Maryville trailing by just 50-47.
Ben Volkman scored in traffic but the Miners drained back-to-back 3-pointers and tacked on a layup for a 60-47 edge.
Nick Miller scored inside but the Miners made another triple to take their largest lead of the game at 63-49 with just over nine minutes to play. The teams traded baskets for the next five minutes as the Saints were unable to trim the deficit to single figures.

In addition to his double-double, Johnson dished out four assists. Forrester Sims recorded with 12 points, and Grant Sims also added 12. The Miners hit 11 3-pointers while shooting 44 percent from behind the arc. Jalen Myers scored 23 points and Rokas Paulauskas finished with 22 points.

The Saints are now 2-7 overall, 0-1 in the GLVC. Missouri S&T stays unbeaten at 6-0, 1-0 in the league. Maryville stays on the road for GLVC action and plays at No. 15 Drury Saturday afternoon.
