Springfield, Mo. - Ali Ringering tallied 18 points for the Maryville women's basketball team but No. 14 Drury used a big early run and eased to a 78-50 victory Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mo. The Saints shot the ball all from deep and converted at a 42.1 percent clip.
Ringering began the game with a 3-pointer, and after a DU score, Stephanie Sherwood also knocked down a shot from deep for a quick 6-2 lead. However, the Lady Panthers scored the next 16 points to build a double-digit lead. Madeline Hartke finally scored for Maryville to end the Drury run. Brooklyn Chaffin drilled another triple for the Saints to cut the gap to 18-11 after the first quarter.
Early in the second, Hartke hit one free throw, and Ringering added a jumper as the Saints pulled to within 20-14. Drury scored the next eight points and stretched out its lead back to double figures. The Saints managed to stay close with their deep shooting but the Lady Panthers eventually pulled out to a 42-22 lead at halftime.
The Saints used an early 8-0 burst in the third quarter to cut into the Lady Panthers lead. Ringering sank a 3-pointer, and Alex Wolf scored on a layup. Sherwood sank yet another from beyond the arc to close the gap to 50-34 midway through the quarter. Drury extended its lead to 63-41 heading into the final quarter but the Saints were unable to pull the deficit back.
Ringering hit 6-of-9 shots from the field, including four 3-pointers, to post her game high total. Wolf chipped in six points and six rebounds. Drury put five players in double figures to improve to 8-1 overall, 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Saints fall to 3-4 overall, 0-2 in the league.
