No. 12 Drury Uses 3-Pointers to Down Saints Women's Basketball

. - Senior Alex Hillyer poured in a game-high 23 points but No. 12 Drury used a 3-point barrage with 12 triples to post an 83-58 victory over the visiting Maryville women's basketball team Thursday night at the O'Reilly Center in Springfield, Mo.
 
Alex Wolf scored the first basket of the game to five the Saints the early 2-0 lead. However, Drury tied the game on a layup and started crashing the offensive boards. Fueled by six early offensive rebounds, DU tacked on 15 more points to surge to a double-digit lead. Madeline Hartke scored for the Saints to break the run but Drury settled for a 23-point lead after the end of the first quarter. Early in the second half, Hillyer sandwiched buckets around a Drury free throw to pull the Saints to 28-8. Drury found the range in the first half from deep and hit seven 3-pointers to grab a 43-15 lead at intermission.
 
Midway through the third quarter, Hillyer took over in the lane and scored seven straight points during a 9-0 burst for the Saints. Maryville stretched the run to 14-2 and trimmed its deficit to 56-33. The Saints pulled to 62-40 before Drury took a 66-40 lead into the fourth. Maryville used an 8-2 run and got as close as 72-52 in the fourth but Drury eased to its 11th straight win.
 
Hillyer finished with 23 points, seven rebounds and blocked four shots. Hartke tallied 16 points, one short of her career high set one week ago. Ali Ringering chipped in 10 points. Adrienne Horn paced Drury with 17 points off the bench. The Saints are now 10-13 overall, 4-12 in the GLVC. Drury ups its mark to 21-3 overall, 14-2 in the league.
 
Maryville is next in action Saturday, Feb. 20, as the Saints host Missouri S&T for a 1 p.m. tipoff at Moloney Arena.
