Frontenac, Mo. - Maryville University assistant women's soccer coach Lori Chalupny was inducted into the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Frontenac Hilton Hotel. She was part of a 12-member class that included Don Droege, Ernie Hays, Larry Hughes, Mike Liut, Michael Spinks, Conrad Dobler, Nancy Fahey, Al Hrabosky, Jason Isringhausen, Lee Smith and Linda Wells.

Chalupny has served as an assistant coach for the Saints women's soccer team since 2013. She has been named the head coach-designate and will assume the head coaching position at the conclusion of the 2017 Saints season.

Chalupny was a member of the United States Women's National Team which won the 2015 FIFA World Cup in Canada. She also won a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, and scored a goal in the semifinal round game against Japan.
Chalupny recently announced her retirement from the game as a professional player and finished with 106 caps with the USWNT. She had her number 17 retired with the Chicago Red Stars during the 2016 season. Chalupny played two seasons with the St. Louis Athletica of the WPS, served as team captain and was a WPS All-Star.
A graduate of Nerinx Hall High School in Webster Groves, Chalupny was ranked by Soccer America as the No. 2 player in the nation. She was a two-time Parade Magazine High School All-America and twice earned All-State honors for the Markers.

After high school, Chalupny went on to a standout college career at North Carolina, completing her eligibility in 2006. For the Tar Heels, she was a three-time All-American and helped the team win the 2003 National Championship. A three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection, she scored 30 goals and had 32 assists during her career with the Tar Heels. Chalupny earned her degree in sociology from UNC in 2013.
