Somers, Wis. – The Maryville women's basketball team fell behind in the second period and could not battle back as the Saints fell to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside 61-55 Thursday night at DeSimone Gymnasium in Somers, Wis.
After a close first period which saw Maryville take a 12-11 lead,
Alex Wolf led the Saints on a 9-4 run in which she had seven of those nine points to give Maryville a 23-25 at the 5:00 minute mark. The Rangers then turned the tables on the Saints and finished out the period with a 15-0 run to take a 30-23 lead into the halftime locker room.
The Saints battled back in the third period and cut the UW-Parkside lead to 39-37 when Wolf hit a pair of free throws with 2:23 remaining in the period. The Rangers then extended the lead to 43-38 on a pair of Brittney Fair jumpers to end the period.
Amanda Ponce opened the final period with a triple from the left wing to cut the Rangers lead to 43-41 with nine minutes remaining in the contest, but that is as close as Maryville would get.
UW-Parkside (4-10, 2-4 GLVC) was led by Fair with 20 points while Lauren Boerger added eight points in the win.
Wolf finished the night with a season-high 16 points and tied her career-high mark in rebounds with 13.
Ali Ringering added 10 markers while
Stephanie Sherwood chipped in with eight points and a carrer-high 10 boards.
Maryville (4-8, 0-5 GLVC) returns to the court on Saturday, Jan. 14, as the Saints take on Lewis University in a 1 p.m. tip on the road at Romeoville, Ill.
