McKendree match results in PDF
St. Louis - In a thrilling contest between two of the top wrestling teams in NCAA Division II, No. 3 Maryville edged No. 8 McKendree 19-18 in the first official Great Lakes Valley Conference match. The Saints won via the first tiebreak criteria which was total wins by a 6-4 count. This is the first season that wrestling is a GLVC sport.

Dakota Bauer recorded a 7-6 win at 133 to get the Saints started. In a battle of elite wrestlers at 141,
Nate Rodriguez, No. 1 in the weight class, edged defending national champion Darren Wynn 4-2.
James Krischke downed Isaiatt Kemper at 149 as the Saints moved to a 9-0 advantage. Ryan Strope got the Bearcats on the board with a fall at 157, and Austin Geerlings posted a tech fall in the 165 classification to give McKendree an 11-9 lead.

After another win by the visitors,
Zeb Wahle notched a 6-2 win in the 184 class, and
Ethan Sherertz recorded an 8-2 victory at 197 to push the Saints back up 15-14. In the heavyweights, Coltyn Pease won via a major decision as the Bearcats answered for an 18-15 lead. The final match came in the 125 weight class, and
Jaret Singh notched a key 4-0 victory to tie the team score at 18-18. The Saints then prevailed by the tiebreaker to emerge with the narrow victory.

The Saints are back in action Saturday with a contest at No. 5 Wisconsin-Parkside, as well as with a squad competing at the Missouri Valley Invitational.
