St. Louis - The Maryville women's basketball team was aiming for its third straight victory but was tripped up by Truman State 69-54 Thursday evening at Moloney Arena.
Ali Ringering paced the Saints with 15 points.

The visitors scored the first four points of the game until
Mary Barton drilled a 3-pointer to get the Saints on the board. Truman answered with a triple, and Barton came back with a layup. The Saints were only down 12-7 after an
Amanda Ponce bucket. Truman State scored the last five points to take a 17-7 lead after the first quarter.

Maryville was still down by nine before
Alex Wolf scored in the lane, and Barton buried a 3-pointer to pull the Saints to 19-15 at the 6:14 mark of the quarter. Truman pushed its edge to nine until Barton scored to trim the gap to 26-20. The visitors settled for a 29-22 lead at the break.

In the third quarter, both teams shot over 50 percent from the field as the score remained close. Wolf sank her first 3-pointer of the season midway thru the period as the Saints drew to 34-29. The Saints repeatedly made runs but were still down 48-42 at the end of the third after another Wolf jumper. The Saints were still down just 56-48 with 4:31 to play in the game but could not get any closer down the stretch.

Barton added 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting, while
Ellen Foster sank four of her five shots and chipped in 10 points. Wolf grabbed a team-high nine reboounds. The Saints shot 54.5 percent in the second quarter and 58.3 percent in the third. Cassidy Clark led Truman State (9-8, 4-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference) with 14 points.

The Saints fall to 6-9, 2-6 in the GLVC. Maryville is back in action Saturday as it hosts Quincy in a 1 p.m. game.
