Stephanie Sherwood recorded her first career double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Maryville women's basketball team downed Quincy 59-51 Saturday afternoon in Moloney Arena. Sherwood hit a key 3-pointer late in the contest to keep the Saints ahead and hold on for the victory.

Quincy scored on the first possession of the game but the Saints ripped off a 16-0 run to grab a lead they would not surrender.
Amanda Ponce tied the game, and
Mary Barton's 3-pointer pushed the Saints up 5-2.
Ali Ringering drilled a triple, and
Ellen Foster scored inside.
Carly Frala's 3-pointer from the wing built a 16-2 lead at the 5:22 mark of the opening quarter. Quincy finally scored its next points with just 3:48 left in the first. The Saints settled for an 18-11 lead. The Hawks chipped away at the Maryville lead and got as close as 24-20.
Brooklyn Chaffin sank a 3-pointer, and after a QU bucket, Sherwood splashed in a shot from deep for a 30-22 advantage. Maryville took a 33-27 lead into halftime.

The Saints pushed their lead in the third to 10 after consecutive scores by Sherwood and Ringering. Down 45-35, the Hawks scored six straight as Maryville led 45-41 after three. Quincy opened the final quarter with a 3-pointer but free throws by Barton and a hoop by
Alex Wolf led to a 49-44 edge. The Hawks stayed close and pulled to 52-51 with 2:29 remaining in the game. However, Sherwood drilled a 3-pointer from the right corner for a 55-51 lead, and the Saints defense kept QU shut out the rest of the way.

Sherwood had a strong outing overall as she had four steals, three assists and two blocks to add to her double-double. Ringering finished with 14 points as she converted 4-of-5 from 3-pointer range. The Saints defense did not allow any Quincy (4-15, 1-8 GLVC) players to reach double figures.
The Saints improve to 7-9 overall, 3-6 in the GLVC. Maryville hits the road next week for two contests in the Kansas City area.
