Saints Take Set Three but William Jewell Prevails in Four

Summary
The Maryville volleyball team challenged William Jewell, taking set three, but the Cardinals kept the Saints at bay to win a four-set decision. WJC prevailed 25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 25-15. Allison Lakin paced the Saints with a double-double on 14 kills and 14 digs. Ashley Selman crept closer to the 1,000-kills milestone for her career and now sits at 980.
 
What Happened
The Saints scored four of the first five points but the Cardinals cranked up their offense and hit .333 to move to a 25-18 win. In set two, the Saints used a 4-0 burst to build a 9-4 edge. WJC rallied with six straight points and surged ahead. The teams traded points and the Saints closed to 20-19. However, the Cardinals scored five straight to win the set.
 
Set three saw the Saints holding a 9-8 lead before ripping off four straight points for a 13-9 lead. The Cardinals inched to 16-13 but the Saints steadied themselves with two blocks during a 3-0 run. Maryville used a late 4-0 outburst and took the set 25-19. The fourth set was tied five times before William Jewell tallied five consecutive points to close out the match.
