Selman Records 1,000th Career Kill but UIS Downs Saints

Summary
Senior Ashley Selman recorded the 1,000th kill of her Maryville volleyball career but Illinois Springfield handled the Saints in three sets 25-22, 25-14, 25-16. On an overpass early in the second set, Selman smashed down a ball to reach the 1,000-kill milestone, becoming the third Maryville player to achieve the mark.

What Happened
The Saints had their best hitting output in the opening set. Maryville jumped to a 6-3 lead. Taylor Schellert had a kill, and after a UIS error, Allison Lakin's kill was good for a 6-3 lead. After another Lakin kill, Taylor Stirton served consecutive aces for an 11-7 edge. A Schellert kill built Maryville's biggest advantage at 17-12 but UIS slowly rallied. The Prairie Stars used a late 5-0 run to take control.

In set two, Selman recorded her career 1,000th kill to provide Maryville a 4-3 edge. The Saints were down just 7-6 before UIS tallied eight straight to surge ahead. Another Selman kill ended the Prairie Stars burst but UIS took a 2-0 lead.

The Saints scored the first two points in the third set and eventually were up 5-2. After UIS went ahead 6-5, Selman and Natalia Pia had a block, and Selman's kill was good for a 7-6 advantage. UIS retook the lead and built it up to 18-12. Pia had a solo rejection, and she teamed with Schellert for another block to pull the Saints to 19-15 but would not get closer.
