Summary
Kayla Buxton notched her second double-double of the season with 15 assists and 12 digs for the Maryville volleyball squad but host Missouri-St. Louis dealt the Saints a 3-0 defeat. Set scores were 25-15, 25-14, 25-16. Allison Lakin tied for match high honors with 11 kills.
What Happened
The Saints scored the first two points of the match on a Lakin kill and Buxton ace. Maryville was still up 4-2 after Lakin's second kill. UMSL took the lead with six straight points. The Saints got as close as 9-6 but UMSL pulled away with a 4-0 run.
Maryville started the second set with a 3-0 run. Taylor Schellert had a kill, and UMSL committed two straight miscues. UMSL got to 5-4 before Lakin put down a kill, and a Triton hitting error was good for a 7-4 edge. The Saints had their last lead at 9-8 after a Cassidy Arndt kill. UMSL pushed into the lead and used a 4-1 run to win the set.
It was UMSL's turn to start a set with the lead before a Schellert solo block got the Saints on the board. Maryville trimmed the gap to 7-5 on a kill by Katie Verseman and an UMSL attack error. The Saints were within 9-6 until the Tritons scored four-in-a-row and pulled away to end the match.
