Saints defeat UIndy 1-0 to Advance in the NCAA Tournament

Kansas City, Mo. – Christian Kjaersgaard posted his 10th shutout of the year as the third-seeded Maryville University men's soccer team defeated No. 6 University of Indianapolis 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championships.

What Happened – The Saints opened the scoring in the 29th minute as Vittorio Sasso drove a shot off the goalkeeper that then deflected off an UIndy defender into the goal to give Maryville a 1-0 lead. The Greyhounds had opportunities in the second stanza as they outshot Maryville 5-2, but none of those shots made it into the net.

Inside the Numbers – Kjaersgaard had three saves in the match to earn his 10th clean sheet of the year. The shutout was also the 22nd of his career, which sets a new school record.  Pontus Gitselov paced the Saints offense with three shots on the night.

How They Stand – The Saints improved to 13-3-2 on the season while the Greyhounds end their year at 13-6-1.
