Summary
Allison Lakin notched a double-double on 12 kills and 11 digs for the Maryville volleyball squad but host Bellarmine battled by the Saints in three. Set scores were 25-17, 25-19, 25-14.
What Happened
The Knights sprinted out to a 6-2 lead before a kill by Lakin and a block by Ashley Selman and Natalia Pia pulled the Saints to 6-4. Bellarmine stretched out its lead with a 5-0 but the Saints answered with four straight. Taylor Schellert and Taylor Koss both had kills, and two errors by BU drew Maryville to 14-10. The Saints were unable to get any closer as the Knights took the first set.
Trailing in set two 7-4, the Saints surged ahead on a 4-0 burst. After a BU error, Cassidy Arndt put down a kill. Maryville tied the score at 7-all then went ahead on Lakin's service ace. BU retook the lead but Pia's kill knotted the score at 9-9. The Knights scored five straight to take a 2-0 edge.
Selman had a kill to pull the Saints to 10-6 in the third set. Bellarmine built a 13-6 edge until kills by Selman and Lakin cut the deficit to 13-8. BU took control down the stretch with a 4-0 lead to close the match.
