Summary
In its final Great Lakes Valley Conference road match of the season, the Maryville volleyball team lost in three sets at Illinois Springfield Tuesday night. The Prairie Stars prevailed 25-12, 25-11, 25-10.
What Happened
The Saints led the opening set 2-1 before UIS tallied six of the next seven points to jump ahead. Allison Lakin put down a kill and Cassidy Arndt followed with another but the Prairie Stars scored five straight.
In the second set, Maryville again took an early lead and scored two of the first three points. Kills by Arndt and Taylor Schellert were good for a 2-1 lead until UIS reeled off six-in-a-row. An error by Illinois Springfield and a Lakin kill pulled the Saints to 9-5. UIS responded with a 6-0 run to grab the edge.
UIS jumped ahead in the final set with a 3-0 run. Arndt had a kill and a UIS error pulled the Saints to 3-2. The Prairie Stars used another early run and closed out the match.Â
